Help your loved one on the path to relief
As a Care Partner to your loved one, you know firsthand how chronic neck and back pain can affect your lives. We appreciate you being there every step of the way through your partner’s path to relief — your role is incredibly important in this process.
Our team is committed to making your experience with Laser Spine Institute as stress-free and comfortable as possible. That’s why we’d like to start by addressing some of the most common questions Care Partners like you have:
How do I find out if my loved one is a candidate for minimally invasive surgery at Laser Spine Institute?
How long is the recovery process?
Because our procedures use a less than 1-inch incision, patients are up and walking within hours of surgery,^ with no hospital stay. After two weeks, patients may gradually increase their activity level based on how they feel, continuing this progress for five to six weeks after surgery.
Who should accompany my loved one the day of surgery?
The Care Partner accompanying the patient must be at least 18 years old, able to drive, able to assist the patient on the day of surgery and able to care for the patient for the first 24 hours after surgery.
What should I expect throughout the patient experience as a Care Partner?
Upon arrival at the facility
When you and your partner arrive, you’ll be greeted by a member of our team and offered a tour of the facility. The Registration Guide you receive prior to arrival contains everything you need to know about the hours and days ahead, including:
- Your partner’s upcoming appointments and schedule for the duration of the patient experience
- Guidelines for preoperative and postoperative care
- Helpful information about the area like local restaurants and entertainment
With nearly 60 percent of our patients traveling from other states and countries, we want to create an atmosphere that feels like home. While your partner is in surgery, our team will give you regular status updates to keep you informed of your partner’s progress. You’ll have a waiting period of about four hours, and we encourage you to take this time to relax and enjoy our amenities:
- Café with an assortment of complimentary gourmet coffee, tea and ice-cold drinks
- Library with books and games
- Wi-Fi and flat-screen televisions
- Relaxation chairs
As a Care Partner, you’re essential in your partner’s recovery after spine surgery. Throughout your time with us, we encourage you to ask any questions you may have, and when you return home, you can contact our SPINE LINE to speak to one of our nurses or specialists.
In the days after your loved one’s surgery, you may need to assist him or her with daily activities, including:
- Getting in and out of the car
- Eating and drinking
- Getting in and out of bed
