C5-C6 fusion recovery: advantages of outpatient procedures at Laser Spine Institute
Patients faced with the decision about whether or not to undergo spinal fusion surgery may be concerned with the recovery time after surgery. Certain types of spinal fusion, such as traditional open neck or back fusion, have an extended recovery time that can range from 3 months to a year before patients can return to their daily activities. This can be disheartening for patients who have already suffered months or years of limited mobility due to a spine condition.
If you are researching the advantages and disadvantages of spinal fusion, consider all of your surgical options. At Laser Spine Institute, our procedures are a safer and effective alternative to traditional open spine surgery, offering our patients a shorter recovery time^ among other benefits. Our minimally invasive spine surgery has a patient satisfaction score of 98 and patient recommendation score of 98 out of 100.^
Benefits of minimally invasive stabilization surgery
Our minimally invasive stabilization surgery is an approach to spinal fusion that uses state-of-the-art medical technology to perform this type of procedure through a small incision. For a C5-C6 fusion, the incision would be made in the lower portion of the neck to access the spine. Through this incision, the surgeon would remove the diseased disc or vertebrae in the spine that is impacting a nerve root and causing pain. Once the disc or vertebrae is removed, the nerve root will be released which should result in pain relief. An implant will be inserted into the disc space to stabilize the area.
One of the advantages of minimally invasive stabilization surgery at Laser Spine Institute is that our minimally invasive surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure. Many of our patients are up and walking within a few hours after their surgery, and our patients are able to return home the same day their surgery was performed.^
