Endoscope

An endoscope is a thin tube that is used to examine the interior of the body. The instrument typically consists of a light source, lens, eyepiece, and a channel through which medical instruments can be inserted. An endoscope can be used as a diagnostic tool or to perform minimally invasive surgery on a number of areas of the body, including the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, pelvis, and spine. Endoscopic procedures are typically categorized by the area of the body being treated; for example, the term “laparoscopy” refers to the endoscopic treatment of an abdominal or pelvic cavity, while “arthroscopy” refers to the endoscopic treatment of the interior of a joint.

Endoscopic Procedures for the Neck and Back

Laser Spine Institute has developed safe and effective alternatives to open back or neck surgery that utilize an endoscope to access the spinal cavity. Our minimally invasive procedures can be used to treat a number of spinal conditions, including:

  • Spinal stenosis
  • Pinched nerves
  • Bulging discs
  • Herniated discs
  • Bone spurs
  • Foraminal stenosis
  • And others

When compared to highly invasive open back or neck surgeries, our endoscopic procedures present a number of benefits. They are performed on an outpatient basis in a spa-like setting, and 75 percent of patients return to daily activities within two weeks of surgery.
