Chiropractor

A chiropractor is a health care professional who diagnoses and treats mechanical disorders throughout the musculoskeletal system.  While chiropractic treatments are generally considered to be outside the realm of traditional, mainstream medicine, countless Americans have visited chiropractors for relief in recent years.  This field is understandably popular because it offers a chance for meaningful pain relief – even if only in the short-term – without the risks that are most commonly associated with spine surgery.

Chiropractor Services

In many ways, a chiropractor’s services overlap with those of other medical professionals.  A chiropractor may offer varying degrees of:

  • Vertebral manipulation
  • Physical therapy
  • Massage therapy
  • Sports-related treatment
  • Osteotherapy
  • And more

Spinal manipulation, or "adjustment," encompasses a wide variety of techniques that are used to increase range of motion, flexion, and extension without damaging the vertebral joints (facet joints) in the spine.  These techniques are by far the most common treatments offered by a chiropractor and can be effective if incorrect spine alignment has caused nerve compression.
