Our Houston surgery center is outfitted with four exam rooms, where we hope you will feel comfortable and relaxed during your evaluations. You will visit the exam rooms for your initial clinical consultation and your pre- and postoperative appointments. Your initial consultation will include a review of your MRI or CT scans and medical history, an evaluation of your symptoms and a review your current medications. You will be asked to complete a physical evaluation as well. This will help our physicians more accurately pinpoint the source of your pain.
As you go through your appointments, your spouse or caregiver is welcome to accompany you into the exam rooms. We understand that it is helpful to have the support of loved ones, and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible. The information that you hear during your consultations may be beneficial for your spouse or caregiver to hear as well. We understand that questions are a part of the process, and we want you to feel comfortable in asking. We encourage you to write down your questions and concerns and ask your physician during your exam. Our physicians are always happy to answer your questions.

While the average infection rate in a hospital setting is 4.5 percent, the complication and infection rate of our minimally invasive spine surgeries in an outpatient setting is at 0.10 percent. As you go through this process, we welcome any questions you may have and are excited to help you along your journey to getting your life back.
The Spinal Diagnostic Center was created to better serve our presurgical patients. The center allows our medical professionals to perform additional evaluations such as selective nerve root block, discograms and diagnostic facet injections. This process enables our physicians to more accurately pinpoint the source of your pain to give you the greatest relief. Patients experiencing pain in multiple areas may be asked to partake in these additional evaluations.
You will begin your day in the preoperative area the day of your surgery. There, you will meet your surgeon and anesthesiologist. They will review your diagnosis and surgical order with you and walk you through the procedure.
Almost all of our surgical procedures incorporate a combination of local anesthesia, or numbing medicine, and intravenous sedation such as pain medication and sedatives. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities. Our board-certified anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists work closely to ensure your surgery is successful.

Laser Spine Institute Houston is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and operating rooms. Our surgical suites are outfitted with a Holmium YAG laser to assist in surgical procedures, along with high-definition endoscopic cameras and video monitors. The operating rooms also utilize an electronic charting system to ensure safety and accuracy as well as high-quality MRI and X-ray imaging displays. Our surgeons specialize in minimally invasive spine surgery and are committed to excellent patient care and medical innovation.
Our goal is to help you get back to living a normal life by relieving your neck and back pain through minimally invasive spine surgery. Our surgeons perform several types of endoscopic spine surgery with laser assistance. Laser-assisted surgeries include: a laminotomy, the decompression of the spinal cord; a foraminotomy, the decompression of the nerves exiting the foramen; and a discectomy, the decompression of the nerves or spinal cord through the removal of pieces of the intervertebral disc. We also offer a laser-based endoscopic procedure called a facet thermal ablation, where the surgeon uses the laser within the facet joints to deaden the nerves of arthritic joints.
You may also qualify for Laser Spine Institute’s innovative preventive care procedure, RegenaDISC℠, which utilizes your stem cells to repair damage to your intervertebral discs. This treatment helps to regenerate your spinal disc as well as promote long-term back health. Additionally, we offer a procedure called minimally invasive stabilization. This outpatient procedure is an alternative to an open-back fusion.
Once your surgery is complete, you will be taken to the Postoperative Recovery Area, where you will remain until you are discharged. Most patients are discharged 60 to 90 minutes following their surgery. Your vitals and comfort levels will be monitored closely during your recovery period. Once you are discharged, a medical professional will help you to your car. You will be free to return home or to your hotel.
Our medical staff is devoted to ensuring your comfort. The anesthesia may cause you to feel nauseated and the surgery may cause some general discomfort. You may request for the recovery room nurse to provide you with medication to help with your nausea or pain level. Your caregiver will be allowed to join you in the recovery area after you have stabilized following surgery.
Your caregiver will assist you with changing out of your gown and into your clothing, and your recovery room nurse will brief you on your postoperative care instructions. Your caregiver is required to stay with you for the following 24 hours post-surgery.
Once you are discharged, you will receive instructions to return to Laser Spine Institute Houston 24 to 48 hours after your surgery for a postoperative appointment. Some pain is common in the weeks following your surgery, and you may find that numbness and tingling are some of the last symptoms to be resolved. We encourage you to take over-the-counter anti-inflammatories as needed.
During your postoperative appointment, you will meet with one of Laser Spine Institute Houston’s medical professionals. He or she will check your incision, change your bandage and give you further postoperative instructions.
