How to use the Laser Spine Institute Video Series

Hello I am Kathleen Shirley, Physical Therapist.

Because everyone involved in your care at the Laser Spine Institute wants you to have a successful recovery from your surgery, we have created this video series.

Those are the general guidelines to follow after your surgery. For example, what is the safest way to get in or out of bed or how to go from sitting to standing?

In the first part of the video we will be covering regular activities that you perform on a daily basis so that you are sure you are taking good care of your spine as you do them. We will show you how to use effective body mechanics on these daily activities.

The second part of this video series demonstrates exercises that you can do after surgery. They will be prescribed to you as necessary. Your particular exercises recovery plan will be based on your individual condition, your physical activity level and your surgery.  Your surgeon’s liaison will use our exercise prescription pad to let you know which exercises to do in this video series.

The most important thing to keep in mind while doing any activity or exercise is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. If an activity or exercise causes pain or discomfort, STOP IT, check that you are doing the movement properly, try again, and check again. If you are still unable to perform that movement or activity without pain, STOP IT or AVOID IT entirely.

If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please call us. You can reach our Physical Therapist Consultant at 1-866-362-7574 ext 253.

Now let’s get started on your healthy recovery plan!
