Paget’s Disease

Paget’s disease of the bone is a chronic syndrome that adversely affects the rate of degeneration and regeneration of bone. It usually occurs later in life, and even though it can affect any bone, the spine is the second-most common area of the body stricken by the disease. Effected bones can become brittle and break, or the bones may become enlarged and disfigured. When the vertebrae are involved, either of these outcomes could lead to spinal stenosis, or a narrowing of the spinal canal.
Some symptoms of Paget’s disease in the spine can resemble those of several other back or neck pain causes, including:
- Pinched nerves
- Herniated discs
- Osteoarthritis
- Degenerative disc disease
- Spinal tumors
Most cases of Paget’s disease can be treated non-surgically using a combination of bone-regulating medication and pain medicine. Occasionally, damage rendered to the spine might need to be repaired surgically.

In many cases, our procedures may even be effective in the treatment of Paget’s disease that results in spinal stenosis.
Contact LSI for more information about Paget’s disease, and for a free review of your MRI or CT scan to determine if our procedures can help you.
Please note: Laser Spine Institute currently does not perform endoscopic procedures on the thoracic spine.
