Prolapsed Disc Alternative Treatments – Chiropractics

Alternative Treatments

A prolapsed disc – also known as a herniated disc – occurs when the gel-like inner material of an intervertebral disc pushes through the tough outer wall and leaks into the spinal canal. By itself, a prolapsed disc does not necessarily cause any symptoms. In fact, you might have one or more prolapsed discs at varying levels of your spine at this very moment that are not causing you any problems. However, when escaped disc material places pressure on a nearby spinal nerve, problems can arise.

Symptoms

Some of the most common symptoms of a prolapsed disc include:

  • Tingling
  • Weakness
  • Pain
  • Numbness

Treatments

If you're suffering the symptoms of a prolapsed disc, your doctor will likely recommend you first try any of a variety of conservative treatment options to help manage your pain. These can include pain medications, physical therapy, hot/cold therapy, exercise and stretching, and more. Another common method of treatment that many individuals turn to is chiropractics. Chiropractic treatment is based on the notion that correct spinal alignment promotes overall health and well-being. To that end, a chiropractor will manually manipulate the spine in order to restore its natural order and function, temporarily easing the pain and other symptoms of your prolapsed disc.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

However, if you've been visiting the chiropractor – or trying other conservative treatments – for weeks or months and have not seen a reduction in your back or neck pain, contact Laser Spine Institute today. We'll be glad to tell you about our variety of minimally invasive, outpatient procedures that are safe effective alternatives to traditional open back surgery, and can help you rediscover your life without back and neck pain.

Please note: Laser Spine Institute currently does not perform endoscopic procedures on the thoracic spine.
