• Physical Exam—the physical exam may have several components, including tests for reflexes, flexibility, and joint mobility. An orthopedic physician may also palpate certain areas of the spine to check for pain or inflammation. If you’ve reported feeling lower back disc pain, your doctor may do a test that involves raising your leg off the ground to check for sciatic nerve compression.
• MRI or CT scan—medical imaging tests allow the specialists at your orthopedic institute to pinpoint the exact location of damage and to check for conditions like spinal narrowing (spinal stenosis), bone cysts, bone spurs, deformity, herniated discs, bulging discs, etc.
• Additional Tests—the doctors at your orthopedic clinic may also do blood work and diagnostic injections.
